My Story
My first job was in a drop-in center, working with an undomiciled population who had complex issues, such as drug addiction, severe mental health issues, and health conditions. After working with this population for a few years, I transitioned to working with incarcerated youth and adults in NYC juvenile detention centers and NYS prisons, providing mental health services. Additionally, I gained experience in residential treatment facilities, offering substance abuse treatment.

Throughout these roles, I have witnessed cultural neglect, where symptoms defined the individual, which does not align with my core values. My faith has motivated me to become a therapist; it has taught me that all human beings deserve hope and should be treated with compassion. It taught me that there is power and strength within us, despite our struggles in day-to-day life. It has also taught me that everyone was created in a unique way, processing and responding to similar events differently.

Recognizing the importance of cultural competence through my experiences, I have shaped my practice to provide a holistic, Afro-centric approach where your history and life experiences can be assets on this journey of healing or self-discovery—and together, we can build a stronger foundation for your well-being.
